How to build a remote workforce

Telecommuting is thriving, and it’s now estimated that half of the workforce will be remote workers by 2020. And despite many businesses embracing a remote workforce and reaping the benefits themselves, there are of course those who are skeptical – or simply don’t know where to start.

If you reside on the latter end of the scale, we’re here to help you overcome your hesitancies and begin building a remote workforce that works for the company, your employees, and of course, you.

Employ reliable workers

This is obviously important for all businesses, but if you’re going to entrust your employees to work remotely, then you need to ensure they will work at the same pace as they would when they’re being watched in an office. Remote working relies on trust, so you’ll need to have that rapport with employees to guarantee they will work hard.

Make sure everyone is on the same page

Before you start a remote working environment, be sure to ask management if they are ready for the change. Although remote working works incredibly well in a number of industries, some are still unsure, so it’s worth checking with everyone involved to guarantee they are happy with the changes – and of course they know what is expected. Managers must make job responsibilities and expectations clear from the beginning so that everyone knows where they are – and when.

Supply the right equipment

More and more companies nowadays are ditching the age-old desktop computers in favor of laptops to increase flexibility. Laptops make working remotely – from any location – simple, fast, and easy. Generally easily connected to a server, laptops make light work of hot desking or working from home. So if you want your employees to work creatively from home, you’ll need to ensure they have all the tools needed to do so.

Keep in touch

Thanks to technology, we no longer have to rely on emails to communicate. Instant communication through Skype and other messenger services is now widely used in the corporate world. Opening up the channels of communication, meetings can be conducted with individuals on the other side of the world just as effectively as in-office.

Get the right support

Relying on technology doesn’t come without its pitfalls, but installing a stable and reliable service from the get-go will ensure days go off without a hitch. We focus on providing remote support and private hosting to keep connections secure and on-line at all times. Get in touch with us to find out more about our services.
